Introduction to Adding a Layout to a Course

A Delphinium layout is the framework used to organize Delphinium components for a course. It is Delphinium's user interface for both teachers and students in a course.

The first time Delphinium is loaded, it will scan your course and recommend options for adding a Delphinium layout to the course. There are four options for adding a Delphinium layout to your course:

  1. Copy the layout from a previous version of the current Canvas course

    • This is the preferred option when you have copied the Canvas course content from another Canvas course that uses Delphinium (e.g., from a blueprint course, a master copy of the course, the same course from a previous semester, or a different section of the course from the same semester)

    • This option will be disabled in new Canvas courses or if the previous version of a course did not use Delphinium

  2. Use the Layout Coach to A) select a template OR B) create a layout

    • This is the preferred method for courses using Delphinium for the first time

    • The Layout Coach will ask you questions about the course and then suggest templates that will work well for your course design

OR, for advanced users...

    • The Layout Coach will ask you questions about the course and then recommend Delphinium components compatible with your course and block those that are not compatible

  1. Copy the layout from a different course you teach that uses Delphinium

    • Only use this option if you are sure the two courses have the same basic course design, otherwise you might add Delphinium components that do not work well with your course

Each of these options is described in the links below.
