Delphinium's Display Modes
Delphinium provides three different display modes:
Student View
Teacher View
Periscope View
On this page, we will describe when to use each and how to access them.
Student View
The view displayed when a student loads Delphinium is called the Student View. This view loads a Delphinium layout. It also loads the student's assignment submission data and configures Delphinium components to display the student's data.
Depending on the components in the layout, the Student View might also load data for all the students in the class. In student view, all data displayed that does not belong to the logged in student will be anonymous.
If your layout includes the Delphinium gradebook component, then it will display a summary of the student's grades.
Student View allows students to engage with Canvas content and/or view stats on student progress, depending on which Delphinium components are included in the layout.
Note: The teacher can load the student view for the course test student by first switching to the Canvas test student view, and then loading the Delphinium layout. This can be useful when configuring a Delphinium layout.
Teacher View
The default view displayed when a teacher loads Delphinium is called the Teacher View. This view is nearly the same as the student view, except that it does not load data for a specific student. Also, the Teacher View includes an icon in the top right corner that launches the Delphinium tools window when clicked.
Some components will display different information in teacher mode than student mode. For example, in teacher mode, the Leaderboard and Grade Tracker will display student names, but student mode only shows aliases.
The Teacher View will also load data for all the students in the class. This data will be displayed on the "Grades" tab and in components that are designed to display it.
Teacher View allows you to monitor the progress of all students and configure the Delphinium page.
Periscope View
The Periscope View is very similar to the Teacher and Student Views. The teacher can use the Periscope Mode tab in the Delphinium tools window to select a specific student to load in Periscope mode. The page will reload and display as if it were being viewed by the selected student, including all of that student's data.
The Periscope View is used to view the progress of a specific student and/or answer a student's specific question.
The name and alias for the student displayed in Periscope View will be shown in a blue bar at the top of the screen.
In Periscope View, any data not belonging to the viewed student will be anonymous, same as if the student were viewing it.
In Periscope View, the icon to open the Delphinium tools window is still available in the top right window.
Note: You can exit the Periscope View by clicking the "x" in the top right corner or selecting "Default Teacher View" in the Periscope Mode tab in the Delphinium tools window.
Observer View
In courses that use Canvas observers, Delphinium will display data for the observer's observee. If an observer has multiple observees, then they can select which observees data is currently displayed by selecting the observee from the dropdown list at the top of the page.
In addition, when a Delphinium page is loading, components have 3 stages:
Preload - A basic version of the component user interface (UI) loads without any data
Loading - Course meta-data, student data, and Delphinium meta-data begin to load
Loaded - Component's UI and data are fully loaded
Examples of each stage are below
